Description:
This modern sculpture created in 2004 by Hristo Hristov stands outside the Vassil Levski football stadium which is home to the famous Levski football club.
It also doubles as the national football stadium.
Bulgarians love football and many of the top players play in leagues abroad.

Photo Comments:
Football and art are not always considered much together but this football stadium is is surrounded by art works, some in the traditional Realist style and some by contemporary artists.
In this picture I wanted to emphasise the sculpture but to also to show its relationship to the stadium.
For this I chose a wide angle lens with a small aperture for plenty of depth of field.

Winter comes to the Boris Gardens in Sofia in Bulgaria.
The Borisova Gradina or Boris Gardens is the largest and most developed park in Sofia and was proclaimed a monument of Bulgarian park and garden art in 1986.
The Swiss landscape gardener Daniel Neff developed the first plan of the garden in the spring of 1882 and started construction in 1884.
Acacia trees were originally planted, flower beds were shaped, a small artificial lake was built and this all was fenced with a hedge of oaks and hawthorns.
A large stone in the park commemorates his achievements.
His work was continued by the Alsatian gardener Joseph Frei from 1906-1934.
Frei planted the two main alleys in the lower part of the garden, with linden and chestnut trees and opened the wide central and two side alleys.
From 1934–1944 Georgi Duhtev became the manager of the Gardens and Parks Service and by 1942 the Borisova Gradina included a Summer Swimming Bath, the University Observatory, a Big Lake and two football stadiums.
In the communist era the park was called the Park Moscow, the Moscow Park or the Freedom Park.
Today the original name is restored and the park is being continuously developed.
The Levski Football stadium has been renovated and also hosts the national football team.
The latest attraction is a summer boating lake which converts to an outdoor skating rink in winter.
