Rotunda of Saint George Church in Sofia the capital of Bulgaria.
Description:
The Church of St George is an Early Christian red brick rotunda that is considered the oldest building in Sofia.
It is situated behind the Balkan Sheraton Hotel, amid remains of the ancient town of Serdica.
Photo Notes:
The Rotunda of Saint George is a building I return to again and again.
Apart from my love of ancient structures and my view that photography is part of the conservation process I love the way the light at different times and seasons interacts with the brickwork.
For this shot I used my 28-75mm SP zoom lens and a Manfrotto tripod to keep things steady.

The Saint Sofia or Hagia Sofia church in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
The Saint Sofia or Hagia Sofia church is one of the oldest in Sofia and is now one of the most valuable pieces of Early Christian architecture in Southeastern Europe.
The church has been rebuilt many times since the fifth century and was used as a mosque during the years of Ottoman occupation until it was badly damaged by earthquakes.
The building today without its decoration and frescoes is comparatively plain with attractive patterned brickwork.
Outside the church is the permanent flame of the Unknown Warrior.
